About

People bring me what isn't working. I build the system that makes it work.

I'm Bilal Amdhala, a quantity surveyor and Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB). My day job, for more than seven years, has been commercial management on construction and long-term contracts: protecting margins, recovering money the contract owes us, forecasting, and building the reporting the directors rely on. I earned my degree through a part-time apprenticeship while working full-time - five years of doing the job by day and studying it by night.

The other thing I've always done - before I had a name for it - is build systems for people. It started at work: redesigning payment application processes, building dashboards and workbooks that other surveyors now train on. Then it moved beyond the day job: a tailor of thirty-five years and an occupational therapist going independent, both given the business their skill deserved, both still running. See the work →

Somewhere in there I noticed the pattern. The businesses around us - trades, small contractors, construction consultancies, clinics, family firms - are run by people brilliant at their craft, with everything around it left to evenings and memory. The tools that would fix it already exist, for a small subscription. What's missing is the person who looks at a specific business, picks the right pieces, connects them properly and stays until it sticks. That's the gap I work in.

I'll never sell you technology. What I sell is the commercial side of the job done properly: extras captured while the people who did the work are still on site, applications going in on the contract date, and money that is owed actually chased.

How I work

Five principles.

  1. 01

    Diagnosis before prescription.

Every build starts with a paid health check and a written report, so the only thing I ever recommend is what the evidence supports; the monthly services and the sprint stand on their own.

  2. 02

    Fixed fees, agreed up front.

You'll never get a surprise invoice from me. I spend my working life on the other side of payment disputes; I don't create them.

  3. 03

    Few clients, done properly.

A deliberately small client list. You get me, at the standard I sign my name to.

  4. 04

    Your systems, your data.

Every tool is set up in your name from day one. No lock-in, no dependency.

  5. 05

    Straight talk.

If your house is in order, the report will say so. If I can't help, I'll tell you in the first conversation.

One office building at night: scaffold and a tower crane on the left, the finished glazed floors lit and occupied on the right
